Update on Lumpy Disease and the Steps Taken by VSPCA!

A few months back, we talked about lumpy disease, an infectious disease that mainly affects cattle. This disease is characterized by lumps or nodules on the skin, and a secondary bacterial infection often aggravates the condition. There have been several cases of lumpy disease all across India, including in Vishakhapatnam.

A few weeks ago, we were informed of a cow who unfortunately contracted the lumpy disease in the PM Palem area. Once we got the news, our veterinarian and his team rushed to the area and supported the cow with on-the-spot medical treatment. We brought the cow back to our shelter making sure to keep her isolated from the other healthy cows. We are happy to share that under our observation and with the right medical treatment, she recovered completely in about four days!

With the support of the Animal Husbandry Department, we are adhering to strict guidelines regarding the lumpy disease. Our teams at both our shelters are on high alert for any outbreak of the lumpy disease across the city.
