Emergency appeal to rebuild our critical infrastructure damaged due to cyclone

Dear Patrons and well-wishers of VSPCA,

We have been extra-diligent on the ground in our implementation work, as well as online, performing at our level best executing and communicating VSPCA’s work.

Our digital work is done by volunteer Board Members, who work full-time and are attempting to full-time sustain and grow VSPCA.

FYI: This year we created a brand-new website, re-configured our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), established our presence on LinkedIn and have partnered with the Biophilic Cities bringing Visakhapatnam on the city and urban planning map of the world.  VSPCA made a presentation to world cities on September 14, 2020.  Our first publication is on its way, about VSPCA building coastal resilience in Visakhapatnam.  VSPCA is working with  “GIS” - geographic information systems technology, to build an SOS APP for the city.

Everything in animal welfare, biodiversity sustenance and conservation stems from attending to animals in distress/SOS/emergencies.

We know how crucial VSPCA’s work is for Visakhapatnam: Without VSPCA’s two critical city infrastructure assets of Main Shelter and Kindness Farm, without ABC and rabies programs for community animals, without efforts at sea turtle conservation, without efforts for several hundred species of animals from cattle to birds to now bringing awareness to the Fishing Community on Shark Conservation, Visakhapatnam would suffer from untold social and infrastructure loss.

Pradeep and his VSPCA team doggedly work 16-18 our days on the ground.

The gas leak in summer, the raging pandemic and the devastating storms have consumed all resources to the bone.

Online, with new Board Members taking on the website and developing GIS, the teams are hard-pressed to compile the ground information during the storms themselves and share it real-time with our well-wishers.  We apologize.

All our teams were neck-deep in assisting VSPCA attend to distressed animals amid the city’s moratorium.  Our essential workers risk their lives for animals in the city.  We lost our beloved Mr Narayan Rao to Covid-19 as he contracted the virus in his work route ?

Tribute to Mr Narayana Rao!

Certain donors are unable to continue funding us due to hard times.  Animals , however, cannot and must not be neglected.  VSPCA is making sure of this.  Else, it would endanger the whole city in terms of public health and welfare, coastal resilience and biodiversity conservation.

So, VSPCA is doing everything it can to find means and resources to sustain the animals with us, grow our own food, create our own fertilizer and ground cleaners, until we gain donors to help the animals that cannot be helped (due to lack of funds and band-width). We simply cannot do everything effectively and long-term without sustained funding.

We will make every effort to inform you all in a timely manner from this point on as we understand the pandemic and the havoc caused by the storms, and our online team is attempting to match VSPCA ground team’s strides.

Thank you for your kind understanding of this very difficult year for animals especially.

Sincerely,

VSPCA USA President, Priya Tallam
