Initiatives Taken by VSPCA!

Our work at VSPCA never stops, even when the government departments must take breaks from various animal projects, or when major crises such as natural disasters or the pandemic ravage the state.  At VSPCA, we have made it our mission to help and support animals in all ways we can and at all times. There are no holidays at VSPCA as animals need support 24X7. Here are some of the initiatives that VSPCA has taken responsibility for, and we encourage our well-wishers/animal lovers to look below to see how to help animals in small ways:

Our team on the ground organises mass feeding for starving animals on the streets. We coordinate with different resident communities or groups of animal-loving citizens living in areas where the street dogs can live on biscuits and water.  We encourage our residents to plant trees in common spaces for food and shade for cattle.

Every winter, we conduct blanket drives for animals to protect them from the harsh winter weather and cold wind

In 2019, 2020 and 2021, we organized adoption campaigns that were extremely successful.  Many Indian Pariahs were adopted into loving homes.

By following all COVID-19 protocols set in place by the government, we sent out teams to pick up animals that were tied up and left to starve or were left behind after their owners, who, unfortunately, passed away due to COVID, during the three pandemic waves that India faced. Since the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, animals continue to be abandoned for various reasons.  This is something VSPCA is always alert about.

During severe rains and storms, our team members make every attempt to attend to distress calls about injured birds or animals. If residents have keen eyes, they will be able to see how many animals get injured in the storms that have been lashing the coastline.

Our team works hard to unite pet owners with their pets that have gone missing and our team members coordinate with the owners to help look for their missing pets.

VSPCA has also launched the “Adopt an Abandoned Pedigree” animal campaign across the city, which has been successful. People know where to go when they find a pedigreed animal lost on the streets.

One of VSPCA’s main projects is the Plastic Cow Initiative which aims to help cattle that are sick, constipated, and cannot digest food because of the amount of plastic ingested. These surgeries are quite difficult to watch as the amount of plastic removed from their stomachs can be weighed in kilograms. But, our experienced medical team ensures the animal’s safety and care while performing these surgeries.

We also wish to re-share that our Mobile Animal Ambulance initiative goes out weekly into the city, supporting neighbourhoods with medication, treatments, spay-neuter surgery, vaccinations, and more, for stray animals.

In addition to these, VSPCA has introduced many other initiatives such as the Animal Birth Control Programme for cats and dogs, rescuing male calves from the Simhachalan Temple, providing vegan meals for people living below the poverty line, and Sea Turtle Protection.
