Rescuing parrot from fake “astrologer!”
A person who subjugates birds to predict another individual’s life opportunities, cannot be a true astrologer. We can’t help but ask ourselves how can an intelligent bird, beaten into submission by a desensitized human, predict any prosperity for another human who pays to have his fortune explored by a trained, little bird?
This is why, VSPCA staff often refer to wandering astrologers who carry these beautiful, smart, and talkative birds in dingy and rusty cages as “fake.”
A few weeks ago, we were able to rescue this beautiful bird from someone we know to be a “fake” astrologer. In one of our previous articles, we talked extensively about this difficult issue, and how tirelessly our team works to save these birds from their cruel fate at the hands of these ‘pet owners.’
We came to know about this poor bird living in a tiny cage without any food or water. Often, these astrologers break or cut their wings so that the birds won’t fly away, ensuring their captivity in extremely deplorable conditions until their last breath. Even after rescuing these intelligent birds, about half the parrots and parakeets die due to severe dehydration and starvation, and the rest live for few more days.

VSPCA started its work by rescuing these birds under the guidance and supervision of our founder, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Nath, in 1996. Since then, we have set about 980 birds free from their cruel captor. We have taken several steps to ensure that the astrologers have alternative livelihoods and don’t prey on these birds for their living. Additionally, we have taken steps to find forever homes for the rescued birds. People who explore VSPCA’s initiatives tend to be fascinated with this particular program, largely because the birds are so talkative and endearing.

We are pleased to announce that Visakhapatnam is an almost 90% captivity-parrot-free region, one of our many successes! We have managed to liberate and rescue several hundreds of these birds offering them a life they are born for and deserve!
