Dogs at our feeding station!

Dogs at our feeding station!

Almost five decades ago, before the idea of VSPCA was conceived, its  founder, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Nath, set up 16 feeding stations across the city, for the street dogs. At each station, they are able to get access to fresh, nutritious and delicious food and clean water everyday.

Our faithful, kind and caring cook, Ms. Nagamani prepares more than 300 food packets everyday for the feeding stations. She prepares 29 kilograms of rice and 12 kilograms of curry to feed these hungry dogs. She prepares these packets for delivery to all the feeding stations twice a day, everyday from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and then again from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Ms. Nagamani has severe arthritis but cares so deeply for the animals waiting for food, that she often overcomes her pains and does her duty for the environment, regularly.

In the pictures below, you will see Mr. Nath at our second feeding station playing with a few of the dogs from that area. Mr. Nath says that these dogs first play with them, then they eat, and after a full belly, they lie down and rest. Mr. Nath ensures that each dog feeding station has ample space where the dogs can rest without worrying about getting injured by passing cars.  Each station is in a strategic location, away from any human-animal confrontations, markets, dangerous equipment, or they are in quiet areas of town.

Mr. Nath loves to physically come to the feeding stations and spend some time with the dogs.  Many people observe how much at-ease, all the hundreds of dogs are in his presence. He hopes to continue this project and build more feeding stations for the street animals in more areas across the city. He takes the liberty to name all the dogs that come to these feeding stations as well as he sees them as individual persons!

Besides Ms. Nagamani, VSPCA is indebted to Dr. Gayatri Vaidyanathan who lives in the USA, and who has consistently supported VSPCA dog feeding stations with a portion of her income!

Our deep and humble gratitude to Dr. Gayatri and Ms. Nagamani.  We also would like to mention our deep thanks to many VSPCA staff and volunteers, who over the years, have supported this program in ways, from delivery, to donations, and cooking the meals.
